Master Guide Helps
Introduction:
The Master Guide Curriculum is designed for youth and adults meeting the course requirements and involved in youth ministry. The emphasis is on in-service training and active involvement in learning new skills and developiong method for successful leadership in youth ministry. Participants are required to complete this course withing three years of commencement date. This curriculum prepares the participant for leadership roles with the Adventurer, Pathfinder, and youth/young adult.
Objective:
To provide opportunities for participants to develop and awareness of the role of children/youth leadership and become better prepared to accept this role by receiving training in:
These are 11th or 12 grade Pathfinders and/or staff who have indicated that they are working on the Master Guide curriculum.
Facilitator:
This staff member will 'facilitate' the Master Guide program, coordinating with the unit staff when they need to work with them on projects. Since many of requirements are to be done on the Master Guide candidates own time the "facilitator" will keep the records/files of the assignments they complete.
Planning:
Some requirements are long-term such as the required reading, devotionals and the fitness program. It would be wise to look over the Master Guide requirements and get started on the long-term requirements as soon as you make the decision to become a Master Guide. When you're done with a requirement let the facilitator know so that someone can sign them off.

d) Demonstrate your knowledge of the 28 Fundamental Beliefs by completing one of the following:

(Note: Completing the Adventist Church Heritage Award completes all the requirements)
i) Reading The Pathfinder Story
ii) Earning the Adventist Church Heritage Award
Church Heritage Manual
iii) Reading a book on some aspect of church heritage, such as:
a. Anticipating the Advent, by George R. Knight (a brief history of Seventh-day Adventists)
b. Tell It to the World - A dramatic presentation adapted by Cindy Tutsch from C. Mervyn Maxwell's book
c. Light Bearers to the Remnant (denominational history college textbook)
Books are available from the ABC or AdventSource

3. Skills Development Helps
a) Have the Master Guide Facilitator contact Conference Coordinator, past directors, pastors, etc and

b) Have or earn the following honors:
i) Christian Storytelling
ii) Camping Skills I
c) Earn two additional honors of your choice not previously earned
d) Hold a current Red Cross First Aid and Safety certificate or its equivalent (American Heart Association)
e) Supervise participants through either an Adventurer Class or Pathfinder Class curriculum
or teach a Sabbath School class for at least on quarter.

b) Develop your leadership skills by doing the following:
i) Have the pastor do a session on how to conduct a meaningful worship and work with the candidate to
plan and present them
ii) Contact the conference and see if the Master Guide candidates can do an activity at the next camporee
iii) Teach three Adventurer Awards or two Pathfinder Honors
iv) Assist in planning and leading a field trip for a group of Adventurers, Pathfinders or Sabbath School class.
v) Be an active Adventurer, Pathfinder, Youth Club, Sabbath School or AY Society staff member for at
least one year and attend at least 75% of all staff meetings.
c) Identify three current roles in your life, at least one of which is spiritually orientated,
and list three goals or objectives for each.
