Hunting Island Expedition Information
This campout will be for the 9th-12 grade Pathfinders. Permission Form
Where: Hunting Island State Park
When: Jan 15-18, 2016 (meet 2:30 PM Friday - return mid-afternoon Monday)
Leave: Friday afternoon
Return: Monday evening
Food: Everyone will be responsible for bringing and preparing their own food. You might want to get in groups of 2-4 to plan your meals and cook together.

- We will meet at the upper church parking lot at 2:30 PM or Fri. Jan 15 for packing/departure - if you do not think you can be here let staff know - some staff may be departing later
- We will depart Hunting Island early Monday, Jan 18 AM - plan to arrive here mid afternoon
- We will be camping at the Hunting Island State part (South Carolina - near Beaufort) group campground - a 6-hour drive from here.
- Pack as usual for a winter campout - warm clothes and sleeping bag/mat etc. - as nights can be cold. We will NOT be backpacking
- Don't forget camp chairs, bibles, and headlamps/flashlights
- Bring shoes that can get wet and sandy as we will be hiking on beaches and marshy areas AND backup dry shoes
- We will be stopping at Taco Bell for Fri Supper and on return Monday lunch so please have some extra money for those 2 fast-food stops (you could pack a sack supper for Friday supper if you prefer)
- Pack your own (or get into small meal groups) food for 3 breakfasts and 2 lunches (example: oatmeal, Ramen/noodles, etc.) We will have stoves. Meal Examples
- The club will provide Saturday night and Sunday night suppers so you won't need to bring food for those meals.
- We may be working on several honors
- Work on Light House honor (There is a lighthouse)
- Work on Dutch Oven Cooking Honor
- Camping (of course)
- Walk on the beach
- Dolphins come close to the shore and can be spotted feeding
- Look for sea shells and sharks teeth
- Bird watching (there are Bald Eagles and Osprey)
- Check out the tidal pools (always watching out for gators)
- Go on the Marsh Walk (part of Forrest Gump was filmed here)
- If you have a camera, it’s a great place to take pictures
- Visit the nature center
- There are several geocaches on the island for geocachers
- Spend time with your friends
