Friend Unit (5th Grade) Campout

Friend Unit Campout at Harrison Bay State Park

Dear Parents:
As you have should know, there is a "Friend" (5th grade only) campout September 9-10 at Harrison Bay State Park, as is shown on the calendar. If your child does not come home with a permission form, print one out at and bring it filled out and signed to the campground. As with each campout we cannot keep your child until we have the permission slip, so please make sure your child always has one and it is turned in when you drop them off for each campout.
Here are the basic details for the weekend:
Drop off your child at Harrison Bay State Park at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9. You will need to pick up your child at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday (at Harrison Bay in the same location).
We will be camping at camping area D on the right side of the road past the ranger A-frame station.
The Pathfinders do not need to bring food of any kind unless for medical purposes. For supper we most likely be roasting hot dogs over the fire and have chips and carrots with s’mores for dessert. Sunday breakfast will be little links, pancakes, eggs and fruit and “bread on a stick”. (Food may change because really the kids have to plan the meal, which we are doing tonight but this is usually the most popular.)
Refer to the Camping Checklist about what to bring. (The list may be found online at http://www.pathfindersrus.com/forms.html). Main things are:
·        sleeping bag
·        pillow
·        water bottle
·        clothes, including an extra pair in case they get wet – kids, esp. boys, like to get wet!
·        rain gear (Only calling for 10% chance of rain)
·        Sleeping pad is most important because it is rockier than our usual camping areas
·        bug spray
·        camp chair (optional)
Please put child’s name on everything so we can return it if it gets left behind!!

Directions to Harrison Bay: http://tnstateparks.com/parks/contact/harrison-bay
Harrison Bay is located off Hwy 58. (If coming from Ooltewah, you can take Hunter Road. Hunter Road will go about 5-6 miles and dead end into Hwy. 58.) You will go past the lake and over a bridge by the boat ramp (Wolftever Creek). Harrison Bay Road will be the next turn to the left. You will go 2-3 miles and the Park will be on the left. When coming into the park the road will split into a Y. Stay to the right towards the camping areas. Go past the pool and past the ranger station. Second road to the right past the ranger A-frame should be “Patton Hill”.
If you come to the end of the road where it dead ends into the Bay then you have gone too far. Also if you come to the Mariana, then you went the wrong direction at the Y.
