February 19, 2010 - Friend Unit Activity (Permission Form) - Meet up by the pathfinder trailers @10 am. We will be going via staff vehicles. We are going to Little River Canyon National Preserve. We should be back in the Chattanooga area between 6-6:30pm but plan to go to Dr. Moody's house to play games and have supper and a bon fire. Parents can plan to pick up their child at Dr. Moody's house @8:30pm. The address is 2618 Ooltewah-Ringgold Rd. (It is between 4 corners and Standifer Gap road.) It is next to Granada Estates. (They can Map Quest it if needed.) Please pack a sack lunch for your child. We
will provide supper. The pathfinder will also need a water bottle and
possibly a change of clothes (depends on the weather.) Please dress
according to the weather. Last I checked it was going to be 55 degrees and
20% chance of rain. February 18, 2010 - The Companions are going to work on their Caving and Camping Skills II Honors the weekend of February 19 -21, 2010 at Raccoon Mountain Caverns. Pathfinders will get a four (4) hour guided tour through the cave which will culminate with a sleepover in the cave itself. The next morning after breakfast we will pitch camp in the adjacent campground and continue with the Camping Skills II Honor till Sunday morning. As part of the Camping Skills II Honor, each Pathfinder needs to cook and prepare their own food. Each Pathfinder must bring food for one lunch, one dinner, and one breakfast and all necessary cooking utensils (nothing plastic except cups, forks, spoons, or knives). All necessary stoves will be provided. Your child can bring canned food that just needs warming up or they can show off their culinary skills and whip up their favorite dish. Each Pathfinder must bring a sack dinner for Friday evening as we will not have time to prepare anything before venturing into the bowels of the earth. Please make sure that your child brings their own sack dinner. It is imperative that the Waiver Form attached to this Permission Form be filled out and signed by the parents for each individual Pathfinder or the Raccoon Mountain staff will not let your child participate. There will be no exceptions! To make it in time for the cave tour we need to leave at 3:30 p.m. from the Collegedale University Church parking lot. Please drop off your child promptly so as not to hold up the group. Pick up time would be on Sunday morning at 12:00 noon in the Collegedale University Church parking lot. If some of you are going to carpool, please make sure that the driver collects all the Permission Forms and Waiver Forms from passengers before departing. This is going to be a great experience and is what Pathfinders are all about! Thanks to all you parents for supporting and faithfully bringing your children every week. January 28, 2010 -
Companion
(6th-grade) Unit information - We would like to have the parents drop the
6th grade Pathfinders off at the address below at 6:00 p.m. (instead of 6:30
p.m.) on Wednesday evening, February 03, 2010.
This is to fulfill the requirement for "Serving Others" with a one-on-one
visit to elderly residents of Morning Pointe. We will have a worship
service, sing a couple songs, and then split up into groups and talk with
the residents. After leaving, the Companions will follow-up by sending a
card or letter to the residents they talked to, expressing how much they
enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with them. Also due to the early
start time
pick-up
time will be at 7:30 p.m. January 7, 2010 - If you haven't already let us know whether or not your Pathfinder will be going on the club campout January 15-17, 2009 to Indian Creek summer camp in Liberty, TN please send an email and let us know. We will be leaving on Friday at 4 pm from the church and returning on Sunday between 5-6 pm. Because it will be about a 3-hour drive to the camp so please eat before coming or bring supper with you. We will be sleeping in cabins but everyone will still need to bring their own bedding or sleeping bag. The Pathfinders will not need bring their class A uniforms. The permission form is available on the forms page. Backpacking Campout - The weekend of February 19-21, 2010 there will be an optional backpacking campout for teens. Please email us or tell Steven Kuhlman if you want to go so we can make sure that we have enough staff and transportation. This trip will be to Laurel Falls in Dayton. Pathfinders will be responsible for their own food. Laurel Falls - Buzzard Point Camporee - The conference has changed the dates of the Georgia-Cumberland Camporee at Cohutta Springs it will now be April 22-25. Please make this change to your calendars. (The previous date was April 15-18). Uniform - If you have uniform pieces
that you need you can order them from Advent
Source. The items to order would be shirts, sashes, scarves and
slides, belts (make sure that it is 40"). We have any of the patches
that you will need. You can order pants from Advent Source or wherever you
can get black uniform type pants. Last but not least occasionally Pathfinders
will tell us that one of their friends has decided to quit Pathfinders.
While this is something that we really don't want to happen we realize that
sometimes things happen. Please let Sam or Karen know by phone or
email if for some reason your Pathfinder won't be in Pathfinders so that we
are not relying on rumor. We must keep records with the conference and
we want to make sure that they are accurate. |
