December Teen Activity - December 12-14, 2014

Teen Backpacking Campout (7th grade and up) December 12-14 Savage Gulf State Park

The teen units (7th grade and up) will be backpacking at Savage Gulf State Park.  Permission Form
Friday - load at 2:30 PM    Sunday – return by 3 PM.  If you are in public school and need us to work with you on the time to leave please let us know in the sign-up comments below

Sign-up below to let us know yes or no whether you are going or tell your counselor as soon as possible so that we can finalize transportation.

This is a great trip for those who are new to backpacking because we don't have very far to walk. Once we arrive at the park we will be backpacking in 1 ½ miles to a group backpacking campsite. The club does have some backpacks to loan to those who want to participate but don’t have one.

Everyone will be responsible for doing their own cooking. The club has several backpacking stoves that can be shared among the Pathfinders and staff. It would be best if several Pathfinders work together on planning their menu, getting the food and cooking gear and doing the cooking. This does not need to be special backpacking food. For ideas of food and menus talk to your counselors and check the club’s website under Camping.

There are outhouse type bathrooms (no showers). There is a creek near our campsite so everyone will be able to get water (it will need to be purified, boiling works) make sure that you have a container to carry the unpurified water from the creek to the campsite. A cheap container is a empty, clean 1/2 milk or juice bottle (it can be tied to the outside of the pack). Everyone will need to carry enough water to get to the campsite and a little more.
